One for the worms..

Ann Niddrie From the day we moved in to our semi from an apartment, Mr K always wanted a compost. Gazing around at our sweet and 'cosy' sized courtyard (a matchbox with a few pavers and a patch of grass) I could not for the life of me see where we could house a compost bin. And from my previous inner city experiences with composting I was not too keen on the thought of the smell. Nor was I keen on the rodent visitors who may dine in the backyard on OUR scraps. I wanted to choose who got to eat our scraps. And so we compromised, Mr K did some research on the internet, and made a wonderful 3 tiered house from styrofoam containers donated by our local grocer, for our thousands of new pets. We now have pet worms that feed happily on our scraps and we feel great that we can do something with our bits and pieces from the kitchen instead of putting them in the bin. The soil in our courtyard is very poor in nutrients and I'm looking forward to using the worm wee on the herb garden and seeing the results!

I love these pics. so clear, what sort of lens are you using? i would love to get some tips on composting for my backyard too.
Hi Grant, thanks for your comments, I am using a sigma lens 24 - 70 mm zoom with macro function. It's a fantastic lens. I sure can give you some tips on composting but you may want to consider a worm farm. We are so happy with the way it works for us as we make just enough food waste to keep the worms happy and well fed. There may be some courses that your local council runs or a community group near you that has workshops and the like. There are lots of people out there very keen to teach others about composting and worm farming, and helping people get set up.
